Why Are Dems Ignoring Rove's Enormous Insult Of Work?

Apropos of Bowers' dead-on, ongoing rant about apologizing while under attack, I want to know this: Why on earth are "The Corner", Mickey Kaus and Sullivan the source of harsher commentary on Rove's enormously offensive attack on work and the people who do it than Democratic campaigns. Why on earth is the Edwards campaign not getting

This is what he said, folks: "I don't want my 17-year-old son to have to pick tomatoes or make beds in Las Vegas."

And: "Now frankly," Rove said during a riff on the temporary worker part of President Bush's immigration reform plan, "I don't want my kid digging ditches. I don't want my kid slinging tar. But I know somebody's got to do it. And we ought to have a system that allows people who want to come here to work to do jobs for which Americans are not lining up."

Start Talking About Resignation

"I think it's the height of irresponsibility and I really resent it -- this was his decision to go to war, he went with an ill-conceived plan, an incompetently executed strategy, and we should expect him to extricate our country from this before he leaves office," the senator said this morning.

We need to think very hard about what's going on in this quote from Hillary, what it correctly recognizes in Bush and what seems to be the fundamental weakness of her response to what she recognizes.

The president equates personal victory - and that's all that matters to him - with keeping U.S. combat forces in Iraq until after he leaves office and can dump it on some adult. It is the single worst display of personal character by a president of which I'm remotely aware. Hillary clearly sees this.

Yet she simply says we should expect him to stop being who he is. She offers nothing else.
